Comment by Jenny Agnew on February 1, 2013 at 8:39am Hi Ladies,
We have decided to donate to The Children’s Cancer Association for our winter giving this season. There is a program in CCA called The Chemo Pal Program that we will be donating to. Here is a link for the program if you would like to learn more about it:
http://joyrx.org/joyrx/friendship-rx/the-chemo-pal-mentor-program.html.
The Chemo Pal Mentor Program pairs volunteer mentors with children and teens going through treatment in the hematology/oncology unit. This program gives children and teens an encouraging and loving person they can count on to be there for them during treatment. Often times Chemo Pal’s will bring toys, books, crafts and other items for the children to engage in with them during their visit. These items come to CCA through donation, and that is where we come in. CCA is always looking for new items for the Chemo Pal Mentor Program. I have reached out to CCA, and they have provided me with a Chemo Pal wish list for donations. Here is the link for the list:
http://joyrx.org/media/Chemo%20Pal%20Program%20Wish%20List%202012.pdf
We will be accepting anything on this list for donation. I will also be bringing the list to bible study next week to hand out. Brie Gilmore will be making a donation box to bring to bible study for you to drop your donations off in, or you can give them to Brie or I at bible study. Once we have collected all the donations, we will be bringing them to CCA. Thanks Ladies, and feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Take care,
Jenny Agnew
Comment by Judy Cook on January 28, 2013 at 7:10pm I am posting a beautiful thank you from Lori & Vince Piscitello. Please read below!
Subject: Mia's update 1/27
First off, Lori and I would like to thank you all for the outpouring of support while Mia has been at Doernbecher Children's Hospital. Knowing that so many good people are concerned about Mia's and our family's well-being has made this very trying time much more bearable. A "Thank You!" cannot express the gratitude we feel for your support. Many more people than are on this e-mail have lent a hand so feel free to pass this on to anyone I might have inadvertently left off.
Now for some Good News: Mia is scheduled to come home tomorrow!! After eight days in the hospital, we will be happy to have her home.
She is improving steadily, with her fever completely gone and her critical blood counts starting to approach normal levels. She has responded well to the steroid and intravenous chemo treatments (although she is a little crabby;-)
While we are anxious to get home, we can't say enough about DCH. Every doctor, nurse, attendant, and volunteer has been amazingly attentive and helpful. Each day they help young patients and families get through difficult times. We will remember them fondly and look to support them in the future.
Going forward: HLH is a relatively new disease in terms of the body of knowledge so what lies ahead is somewhat uncertain. For now, Mia will be on a nine week regimen. We could hope that that will conclude our experience with this disease. However, we have yet to receive test results that will help us understand whether this is infection induced or genetic. One could read a lot of scary things about the genetic strain but we are confident that whatever the case, she will continue to respond well and complete a full recovery.
We truly believe that her continued success is due in parts to her strong will and stamina, her mother's love, good doctoring, AND your thoughts and prayers. It is during these difficult times that we really begin to understand what it means to be loved and cared for. THANK YOU all!!
With much love and appreciation,
Vince and Lori Piscitello

Comment by Karen Jean Corso on December 20, 2012 at 9:51am I want to thank everyone for their gracious prayers for my nephew, Thomas, and my brother's family. Thomas passed into the arms of our heavenly father Wed., Dec. 18, at 3:18 p.m. It was a gut wrenching end to a 3 1/2 year battle with Osteo-sarcoma. We were able to see him on Tuesday and I believe he had already gone. Please continue your prayers for my brother's family as their pain is renewed in their loss and the healing has just begun.
My Bible Study friends help me on my own path of faith through this loss.
Thank you. Karen
